While both function on a points-based process and have a preferred skills list, Canada does have far fewer visa sub-classes and less stringent visa application assessments.

The first difference is on the skill assessment. In Canada one only needs to get his or her qualification assessed from the assessment body while for Australia one needs to get his or her educational qualification and work experience both needs to be assessed before applying. In Australia they have different assessing bodies for different profession and these assessing bodies give you assessment result and you can apply in any state you wish for but in Canada it is not mandatory, you might need to get different assessment if you wish to apply in different states.
